Help for Haiti

HELP for HAITI

Girl Scout Troop #20145 & #20780

Service Project

 February 15, 2010

To Whom It May Concern:

Due to the recent tragic events in Haiti, Girl Scout Troops # 20145 & #20780 are coming together to try and make a difference in the lives of those affected.  The earthquakes have destroyed even the basic necessities for many people.   So many people have lost everything, including the lives of their friends and family.

We are working with International Relief & Development (IRD) organization in putting together hygiene kits for Haiti’s victims. IRD is collecting these kits and sending them to Haiti for the people who need it the most.  We hope that you and/or your organization can help by donating any of these items below.  We do not have an exact number that we are trying to reach, but we are hoping to collect enough to make a difference.

These are the items we need to make the hygiene kits:

Combs-unbreakable without sharp handles (2 to each kit)

Toothbrushes (4 to each kit)-sealed

Toothpaste-no pumps

**Bars of soap-3.5-5 ounces each (2 to each kit)

**Hand towels-approximately 15×25 inches (2 to each kit)

**Heavy duty one gallon sealable bags

For more information on IRD and the hygiene kits you can go to www.ird.com.

Thank you for your consideration in donating to our Girl Scout Troop’s Service Project.  If you have any questions or need further information please call or email me at (561) 460-0683, jackiesickels@yahoo.com.

Sincerely,

Jackie Sickels

My brother is a surgeon, who recently returned from Haiti.  He’ll be returning there in February.

In addition to a desperate need for medical supplies, there is a desperate need for crutches, due to all the fractures and amputations suffered by these poor people.  Could you please put in your newsletter, a request for any old or used crutches or canes?  I’m collecting them for him so that he can deliver them when he returns.

You can list my email address and/or telephone number,  if someone would like to contact me.   I will gladly pick them up.

Thank you,
